Q. What is the range of the Nautical Tracking units?
A. The NTL 210 unit has a range of 250 miles from shore.
Q. What is the price of the units and the monthly charge?
A. The initial cost of the NTL 210 unit is $399. The cost for the monthly plans range from $19.99 - $34.99, depending on how many reports you want per day.
Q. Will people know the vessel is being tracked?
A. No one needs to know that the vessel is being tracked. The unit can be installed anywhere on the boat as long as its signal is not blocked by metal. So, in a fiberglass boat, it can be installed virtually anywhere.
Q. What boats will Nautical Tracking work on?
A. Nautical Tracking can be used on any vessel.
Q. Can the unit be moved from boat to boat?
A. Yes, but you will have to re-install the unit in each vessel.
Q. Do I have to take the tracking unit out of the boat and bring it into the house to hook it up to my computer?
A. No. Once the unit is installed, it receives a signal from the satellite, transmits it through the cellular network and then over the Internet into the Nautical Tracking servers. This information can be viewed at www.nauticaltracking.com using a standard web browser.
Q. Do the Nautical Tracking units have a warranty?
A. Yes. If you receive a defective product, please send it back to Nautical Tracking Immediately and we will replace it with a brand new unit.
Q. How long will the battery pack last?
A. If you have the unit wake up and send a signal once or twice a day, the battery pack should last four to five years.
Q. What is the cost for another battery pack?
A. Under $50.
Q. What does the Panic Mode do?
A. If your boat is stolen, you can initiate the Panic Mode by accessing your account on our website. Once the Panic Mode is activated, a signal is sent every three minutes which gives the exact location of the vessel and greatly aids in recovery of the stolen vessel.
Q. What is the GLS technology?
A. The Global Locating System (GLS) is based on proprietary and patented methods for accurately determining the position of a mobile asset without the use of a GPS chip set in the mobile terminal. The system has been developed using various tracking techniques, wireless protocols, and algorithms to optimize the system for accurate, power-efficient, low-cost tracking.
Q. What are the advantages of GLS over GPS?
A. The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides navigation information via satellite, which requires the unit to calculate its position locally. GLS overcomes GPS limitations in tracking applications by calculating an asset's location centrally in the Nautical Tracking Server after a much shorter period of connection with the satellites. This means faster position reports, dramatically lower power consumption, and significantly reduced upfront hardware costs.
